All in all...considering how busy the bar area was. The young lady behind the bar was very pleasant and accommodating. The tuna tataki was cut way too thick. Way more than one would want in one bite. The flavors of both the tataki and sushi special were not anything to write home about. I have had much better in Charleston SC. In summation, this is a good place, but the attention to detail could be better. 2.5 would be an appropriate rating.

Best sushi around! Hands down, far and away, the best sushi around. Not that East Tennessee is Sushi-central, but Miso would stand out about anyplace. The seaweed salad and the calamari-salad are both awesome. We like to get 1/2 & 1/2. The bar is classy and good, the sushi and especially the sashimi sections are amazing. Good bento-box specials for lunch. The patio is nice almost anytime of year because they can keep it warm, cool, dry, etc.

First thing is first, because this place is so close to the university it is mainly attracting young college students, and that is diners and associates. Now, it is not an overbearing college atmosphere, but if you do not enjoy a younger crowd of people around you I wouldn't recommend going. I am not a huge sushi person, but I do enjoy it from time to time, and I do enjoy their sushi quite a bit. I typically get their Bento box which is a very affordable deal for what you get. My only complaint on the food is the vegetables, which tends to come across very rubbery and unsatisfying. When I get my meal it is nearly always left on the plate. The place is good looking, and the staff is nice. Overall, I enjoy this restaurant and is one of my favorite places to take my girlfriend.

My husband and I are recent transplants from Hawaii. We were desperately in need of a sushi fix. This place was great! very nice place with upscale bar. The sushi was good quality and the staff was attentive. We got the pork gyoza, seaweed salad, and the tangerine roll. All items were satisfying, best Japanese restaurant around.

im interested to see the content of some of the more negative reviews on miso, but it is not my place to contest strangers on food. contrary to what others may say, i find miso to not only serve fresh, delicious, and unique opinions, but ive always found the service to be, at the least, above-average. miso offers some really interesting sushi options, and may be my favorite place for the stuff in johnson city, but they also serve some irresistibly good yakisoba! thier drink menu is varied and interesting, and ive never regretted spending my money here. though there are flaws, as with any place, none are glaring enough for me to reserve stars.

Server was very friendly and gave a great suggestion for sushi. Special Roll Platter. Very fresh and filling. Great prices too. Highly recommend.

While in town for the weekend, my boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner. Who knew you could find such a great little sushi joint in Tennessee! We sat at the bar and ordered drinks, seaweed salad, and sashimi for two. The platter of sashimi was huge and at a great price. Our entire dinner was less than we would have paid at an average restaurant in our hometown. I definitely plan on going back if I'm travelling in the area.

Moved here a month ago from CA. My husband and I LOVE sushi and were hoping to find something good here. This place SURPASSED our expectations! I would say sushi at this place is even better than anything I had in CA. Our new fav place! Superb service and sushi. You guys definitely rock!!!

The food was great, and the service was great as well! My combination lunch was ENORMOUS, and it even came with soup and a salad. I got the house shrimp and the yakiniku Miso combination. I had my fill for lunch and took home a box full of food for supper.

Everything I drank and ate tasted pretty good. The cocktail I had was delicious, it had lychee juice and lychees in it (read the last paragraph to see why you should never order this drink though). I had vegetarian sushi and my husband had a noodle dish which he said he enjoyed. Apparently though, if you look young, you get seated in the bar area with all the obnoxious college kids. So put on a full face of makeup and try to look older, or just avoid sitting over there if you can. The bartender was loud and flirty with a couple customers who played videos/music on their phones the whole time. My waitress was less than interested in serving us and did it half-heartedly. She didn't even refill my husband's water. Ooh the best part...as we're waiting for our waitress to realize we're done eating, my husband looks over and sees OUR WAITRESS DIPPING HER HAND IN THE LYCHEE CONTAINER and eating one straight out of it. So unprofessional. There are much better places to eat that are way more sanitary, the food is better than "okay", and the servers do their job with a smile and sincerity. You better believe I'm never coming back and I'll make sure I tell my friends and family to do the same.

Came for Teriyaki Tuesday and was not impressed. The chicken teriyaki, fried rice, and veggies were all ok but I don't think i'll be ordering it again. The sushi was average and I would come back for the rolls. I will say the calamari fries are delish though! I recommend trying those as an appetizer.

TERIYAKI TUESDAY, my friends. 5 bucks for teriyaki chicken, carrots and rice. Move over subway. Five dollar footlongs have some competition. If you are into sushi, they have some great rolls. If you're not into sushi, try the super California roll. You'll change your mind. :)

Dined here on August 26th at 5:15pm. Decided to try it since there were so many good reviews. I can only guess that other reviewers were intoxicated or have never had real Japanese food before. Problem 1: I went in with my two small kids, ages 5 and 6, and my husband, and the hostess/server/bartender (she apparently plays all 3 roles) sat us in the bar. Not a big deal, but there were plenty of regular-height tables available that would have been more appropriate for a family with little kids. She was rather abrupt throughout the service and since she was wearing several hats that day, I'll assume it was simply because she was pulled in many directions. Problem 2: The miso soup, which the server tossed on our table like she was slinging drinks, was tepid and watery. I got the impression it had been sitting around for a while and they just added water to it to stretch it further. Definitely the worst miso soup I've ever had. More like dirty water. Problem 3: Lemonade for the kids was tart and not too sweet (good), but had a strange metallic aftertaste. Problem 4: The green salad was obviously one of those pre-packaged salad mixes one buys at the grocery store as were the tiny, flavorless croutons and way-too-sweet sesame dressing. Problem 5: The Udon noodles, fried rice, and fried veggies were terribly overcooked, mushy, and drenched in a sickly sweet teriyaki-like sauce. The fried rice tasted like a teriyaki Rice-a-Roni mix that was left simmering too long. I'm pretty sure that fried rice was sitting around for a while, too. Problem 6: We received fortune cookies at the end of the meal! WTF? Since when are fortune cookies served at Japanese restaurants?! My husband tried to talk me into 2 stars instead of 1 because the food was served quickly and his Philly Rolls were OK - the roll could have been tighter and more even, but it wasn't bad. I think the food was served so quickly because much of it had been prepared long before we ordered it and Philly Rolls aren't exactly difficult to make. I'm trying to be fair in my review and find some positives, but there weren't any. I'm from another state where really good Japanese food is available everywhere and I've had my share. This was not Japanese food. It was American food with a Japanese/Chinese "theme". I guess the Japanese "art" on the walls and the name is enough to call it Japanese. I will not go back to this restaurant and if you're looking for authentic Japanese or Japanese fusion food, do not go here. It was some of the worst food I've had.

Went their for lunch today, order the bento Teriyaki lunch. The beef teriyaki was crap it was old tasting and very hard to chew. Will never go back again

Sushi is a staple in my diet, but not my partners, so I always like to find a place that can satisfy both of us. This place did not. Pros: the service was good and I was excited to be greeted by a bowl of miso as we sat down. I got the lunch special with two rolls which both were pretty standard but satisfying. Cons: the salad is a cheap iceberg lettuce mix with julienned carrots. I usually don't expect much from the salad but a couple slices of cucumber or tomatoes would be nice. But the biggest disappointment was what my partner ordered, the vegetable teriyaki. The veggies were way over done and soft. The side of boiled carrots was strange to begin with but then they tasted like they were boiled in sugar water. So if you do goz I'd suggest just sticking with the sushi.

The sushi was fresh and better than I expected. Friendly service and atmosphere. I would recommend to people looking for good sushi with fresh fish.

Decent sushi for a decent price. Nothing to write home about. Would I return, maybe.

Atmosphere: Contemporary Design. Nice bar (Restaurant section was closed) Good thing is that they serve sushi late. Service: Wait staff and Owner are nice. Prompt service. Food: Had the house salad which was basically just lettuce, a few croutons, and a side of dressing. Spicy tuna roll nothing special. Double Dragon roll again nothing special. Sushi didn't taste fresh, but then again, it was at the end of the day. Cost: Typical price for sushi. $4-13 Overall: I would go back if I was in the area.

Miso recently opened in Oct. If you like sushi you will love Miso. They do possibly the best sushi in JC. I had the sirloin teryaki and i enjoyed it very much . Their dishes are quite tasty and reasonably priced. Everyone in our group of 6 was well pleased with our meal. Definately will go back again and again
